2nd Update on the 3 Lionesses in the Ukraine

17th of May 2018

The updates published on this page regarding the 3 lionesses and their relocation to Emoya Sanctuary, are based on facts. Emails, Whatsapp, Facebook and webpage screenshots and voice notes can substantiate what we shared here. The updates are not irrational emotional reactions, assumptions, or thoughtless slander. This information is published without prejudice.

EEF: Emoya Europe Foundation
Conny Eckhardt
Mike Kortzorg
LAEOU: Lawrence Anthony Earth Organisation Ukraine
Lionel de Lange
SOS: SOS Zoo & Bear Rescue
Chantal Jonkergouw
Caroline Green

False Accusations

LAEOU, EEF and SOS are falsly accusing Emoya Sanctuary of not honoring the agreement, “leaving them to fend for themselves” and “withholding funds.”

Emoya Sanctuary proved this to be a lie. A total of 34,500 Euro was raised mainly by Emoya Sanctuary. EEF (Conny Eckhardt & Mike Kortzorg) has 100% control of 27,000 Euro.  7,500 Euro* was donated directly to Emoya Sanctuary. A further 1,900 US$ was donated directly to LAEOU to help fund the lions as discussed. (Scroll down to our 1st Update).

* The 7,500 Euro in South Africa will be addressed in detail in a later update.

LAEOU, EEF (and SOS) are accusing Emoya Sanctuary of “pulling the plug” and “unwilling to communicate”, “not being available for weeks” and “not being co-operative”.

Why did Emoya Sanctuary put a hold on the fundraising for the relocation of the 3 lionesses to Emoya Sanctuary?

Why did Emoya Sanctuary request a written agreement confirming the relocation of the 3 lionesses to Emoya Sancuary from the Lawrence Anthony Earth Organisation, Emoya Europe Foundation & SOS Zoo & Bear Rescue?

1 May 2018 Emoya Sanctuary became aware of information published on the EEF webpage. The page was removed recently. EEF stated that that they were “looking for alternative sanctuaries” for the 3 lionesses without mentioning or discussing this with Emoya Sanctuary at all.
<EEF Website Screenshot>

This was reason for concern. Why would EEF look for alternative sanctuaries to relocate the 3 lionesses to, yet not discuss this with Emoya Sanctuary who have been raising funds to do exactly that? Why would EEF expect Emoya Sanctuary to continue raising funds “to relocate the lionesses to Emoya Sanctuary” when in fact other sanctuaries were considered?
Emoya Sanctuary put a hold on fundraising to relocate the lions to Emoya Sanctuary on Facebook as of 3 May 2018. All previous social media and the donation page on the Emoya Sanctuary website were left intact.

This lead to a request from Emoya Sanctuary to all parties involved to sign a written agreement to confirm that the 3 lionesses in fact would be relocated to Emoya Sanctuary.

3 May 2018

Emoya Sanctuary send an email to Lionel De Lange, Mike Kortzorg, Conny Eckhardt, Chantal Jonkergouw & Caroline Green, with confirmation Emoya Sanctuary’s commitment to the relocation of the 3 lionesses and asking their input and requirements.

12 May 2018

On 9 May 2018 savannah Heuser, 21-year old founder of Emoya Sanctuary sends the following message to the 3 Lionesses Whatsapp group:

2018/05/09, 19:24 – Savannah Heuser: Right guys. I’ve been watching and reading from a distance for a while. I now feel that I would like to interrupt and say something. Can we all agree that we want the 3 lioness and the cub out of Ukraine? Can we all agree that fighting about absolutely anything is not going to achieve* the goal in mind? If we can all agree on those 2 things, then we can move on to the next step. There is a lot of talk of mistrust and weariness. To settle this is quite simple. Friday will come soon enough for written agreements which should be able to put everyone at ease. If all of the intentions are as in the beginning. Then signing it to a piece of paper to make it black and white shouldn’t be a problem? Yes? No? Small price to pay, I believe. Contract is a safe guard for all. Including the animals. Further more. I do feel that we are all being pushed into different directions. And quite roughly. I would kindly ask for any nasty, unnecessary comments to cease immediately. None of us have room or time for things like that. I’d like to think we are all honest people with good intent. Am I Right? The focus is to get the 3 lioness to emoya and Nathan to stichting leeuw. Have a great evening guys. Much love. Xoxo

GOING FORWARD

We will continue to update this page with facts. We will continue to follow the “rescue” of the 3 lionesses, Charlie, Kai, Luka and Nathan (who were named by two loyal Emoya Sanctuary Donors and who have donated at least 18,000 Euros via the 3lionesses@emoya.org.za PayPal account.

At this time our only hope is that the 4 lions are safe and will be cared for by EEF and LAEOU as set out in their ever changing website and Facebook posts.

Ask us anything regarding the 3 lionesses
Specific enquiries will be dealt publicly with.

The relationship between the various parties has been damaged and is irreparable, Emoya Sanctuary always was and still is committed to give a forever home to the 3 lionesses. The terms and conditions will have to be reviewed. Emoya Sanctuary insists that the donors have an input in the future of the 3 lionesses & Nathan even if they are not relocated to Emoya Sanctuary.

SOS Zoo & Bear (SOS)

   Chantal Jonkergouw

   Caroline Green

Emoya Europe Foundation (EEF)

   Minunette Heuser

   Albert le Roux

   Lloreen le Roux

   Gordon Cohen (non executive)

Mission of the Co-operation

  • To relocate the three lionesses successfully from Ukraine to Emoya Sanctuary, South Africa.

  • To relocate the cub Nathan (and originally the cub Florence) successfully from Ukraine to Stichting Leeuw, Netherlands.

Goals

  • To obtain all necessary paperwork to relocate the 4 lions successfully, including but not limited to:
    • Cites Export Permits for the 3 lionesses from Ukraine to Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary, South Africa
    • Cites Export Permits for the male cub, Nathan, from Ukraine to Stichting Leeuw, Netherlands
    • Cites Import Permits for the 3 lionesses to Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary, South Africa
    • Veterinary Health Permits for the 3 lionesses
    • All the necessary documentation to import the male cub, Nathan, from the Ukraine to Stichting Leeuw, Netherlands

  • To raise funds jointly to
    • Build transfer crates for the 3 lionesses and cub
    • Pay for airfare and/or transport of the 3 lionesses & cub to OR Tambo and/or Schiphol or make alternative arrangements for the cub with Stichting Leeuw
    • Extend the adaptation enclosure of Omar/Bruno to accommodate the 3 lionesses with the objective to bond the 4 lions successfully
    • Build a complete enclosure for the 3 lionesses in the event the bonding with Omar / Bruno is not successful (added later when it was discussed to try and bond these lions)
    • Pay for initial veterinary care at Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary, including but not limited to initial hormone treatment to prevent cycles but also sterilisations
      • Donate an amount of 10,000 Euros to LAEO & SOS to support bear rescues in Ukraine
      • Pay for interim care of the 3 lionesses & cub in Ukraine (added to the budget during the visit to Ukraine)
      • Pay extra expenses of LAEO directly related to the relocation of the 4 lions prior to the relocation to Emoya Sanctuary (added to the budget during the visit to Ukraine)

Dates

The initial goal date was to relocate the 3 lionesses to Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary by end of March 2018. The date has been extended indefinitely due to lack of co-operation of the original owners.

The legal ownership apparently lies with De Lange of LAEOU. The timeframe for the Cites Export Permits to be issued must be established.

Once the Cites Export Permits have been issued, Emoya Sanctuary estimates it would take 4 to 6 weeks (maximum) for the Cites Import Permits to be issued by Cites South Africa.

As soon as the Cites Import & Veterinary Health Permits have been issued, final arrangements for flights can be made.

Budget & Funds Raised

The initial budget for the relocation of the 3 lionesses from Ukraine to Emoya Sanctuary was circulated and approved by all. The budget and detailed explanation was posted on Facebook and on the Emoya Sanctuary website as of beginning January 2018 to 9 May 2018.

PDF of original 3 Lionesses Page

During January 2018 to end op April 2018, ±32,000 Euros were donated. The vast majority of these funds were donated by loyal Emoya Sanctuary supporters and donors. The reason for these donations was to support the relocation of the 3 lionesses from Ukraine to Emoya Sanctuary.

The funds donated via 3lionesses@emoay.org are 100% controlled by Conny Eckhardt (EEF).

The funds in South Africa is 100% controlled by Emoya Sanctuary.

The funds were donated as follows:

PDF of Summary of Funds Donated

PDF of Paypal Report on 3lionesses@emoya.org.za

PDF of Emoya Reconciliation re donations via donate@emoya.org.za

PDF of Emoya Reconciliation re donations via FNB account

The funds raised do not include the following:

  • Large enclosure should the bonding between the 3 lionesses & Omar/Bruno not be successful
  • Initial veterinary care with special reference to sterilisations
  • Feed and veterinary care of the 3 lionesses for life
  • Sanctuary related expenses pro-rata to taking care of the 3 lionesses
  • A benevolent intention of Emoya Sanctuary to raise 10,000 Euros for the benefit of LAEOU & SOS Zoo & Bear Rescue for the good work they do in Ukraine

Allegations made by LAEOU & EEF

Several allegations against Emoya Sanctuary and the individual Diectors were made on public social media by Lionel de Lange (LAEOU) and Conny Eckhardt (EEF) and emails and Whatsapp messages send directly to Emoya Sanctuary. Too many to list.

Should you wish to make contact with Emoya Sanctuary to clarify these allegations, please contact us via the contact form.

Our goal would be to publish emails, whatsapp screenshots and voice notes. These enquiries will be published and answered on this page.

Even though the relationship between the various parties has been damaged and is irreparable, Emoya Sanctuary always was and still is committed to give a forever home to the 3 lionesses.
